The controversial silica sand quarry application by Sibelco UK was heard today by Cheshire east councillors at Macclesfield Town Hall.
It was a very tense affair with legal arguement upon legal arguement discussed and debated.

Ultimately the Strategic Planning Committee decided to Approve the application by 6 votes to 5, with 1 abstention.

Interestingly the application will now be ‘called in’ by the Secretary of State after it was successfully argued that the application sits outside of the Cheshire East Local Plan.
Cheshire West and Chester will determine the portion of land that sits within their boundary at a further planning meeting to be heard in May 2018.
